Artists' Books Art Show at the Library

The Central Texas College Fine arts Department teams up with the Harker Heights Library for an exhibition of altered and artist-made books which will be on view from September 19th through October 23rd, 2009.

The book show will be located in the new Harker Heights library and Activities Center on 400 Indian Trail.

The exhibition is the result of collaboration between Lisa Youngblood, Director of the Harker Heights Library, and Dr. Wynona Alexander, Chair of the CTC Fine Arts Department.

The artist’s book—handmade or altered- is a newly popular art form, although it has been seen for many decades. For contemporary book artists ,the possibilities of materials and techniques are unlimited as a means of personal expression. Many may also see the altered book form as another facet of re-purposing or “going green”.

Over two dozen works by seven Central Texas Artists will comprise the show. MARILYN SEALS’ works are both altered and handmade books. HELEN KWIATKOWSKI, SARAH MOORE, and AMANDA GARCIA work primarily in the hand-made format. BARBARA SORGE makes books which are both altered in format and hand made versions of the book form. WYNONA ALEXANDER is showing a variety of ways to alter a book and NANCY ISETT’s work involves interpretation of the book form into ceramic objects of contemplation.
