Valentine's Day Reads

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
This unconventional romance has the young Clare meet her future husband, Henry, when Clare is six and Henry 36. Henry, who has a rare genetic disorder that makes him time travel, appears in Clare's life at different ages, and their unpredictable love story is one of the best I've read in a long time. The audio version features two different narrators, whose readings of Henry and Clare's stories add color to the narrative.

A Room With a View by E.M. Forster
George loves Lucy, but she thinks she loves Cecil, who can't really love anyone but thinks he loves Lucy, who really loves George. This quiet, muddled story is also an Academy-Award-winning film by the same name.

Janes in Love by Cecil Castellucci and Jim Rugg
P.L.A.I.N. - People Loving Art in Neighborhoods - is back in this graphic novel featuring the Janes, who are struggling with gaining acceptance as artists as well as first love.

LOVE: Selected Poems by E.E. Cummings These short poems by modern master E.E. Cummings are some of the best love poems you can find, and the art by Christopher Myers is gorgeous.

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
A romance for those who don't like romances. This follow-up to American Gods has magic, danger, sibling rivalry, dead-end jobs and a few broken hearts and a tiny bit of romance.

That's Amore! The Language of Love for Lovers of Language by Erin McKean
This slim book is full of sweet nothings in different languages, as well as trivia about love and romance in different cultures. Did you know the Romanian word patimă can mean "passion" or "vice or bad habit"?
