The Grinch Who Stole the Library Book - A Play

The Library is putting on a play and we need Teen Volunteers!!!

Audition for a character, make the sets, create the costumes – whatever your interests are, we need your help!

Meetings are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5pm. The next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 17th and auditions for the characters will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19th from 4-5pm.

The performance date will be Dec. 3rd at 6:30 pm.

You MUST have a volunteer form filled out by your parents in order to participate. Contact Miss Rose for more information!!!

Loveless (Anime)

It’s the first day at a new school for twelve year old Ritsuka Aoyagi. Everything seems to be going as normal, aside from the fact that everybody thinks of him as a sociopath because he doesn’t talk to anyone, until he meets a twenty-one year old man named Soubi Agatsuma. Soubi tells Ritsuka that he was a good friend his late older brother, Seimei. Ritsuka finds out from Soubi that his brother was actually murdered by a secret organization. After inspecting Seimei’s abandoned computer files, he discovers that the organization is called ‘Seven Moons’. Ritsuka quickly finds out that his brother and Soubi worked as a pair in spell battles that were invoked carefully using selected words. Now that Soubi has become Ritsuka’s ‘sentouki,’ many other teenagers and their sentoukis have come out to challenge Ritsuka and Soubi. Will Ritsuka uncover the mystery of his brother’s murder? Who and what is the secret organization that Seimei was involved in? You’ll have to check out the anime at the library to find out!

Kitchen Princess by Natsumi Ando

Najika Kazami, an ordinary orphan from Hokkaido, has a dream and a wish. Her wish is to find the boy that she calls her “Flan Prince,” that saved her from falling into the river and gave her a cup of flan to cheer her up. On the silver spoon was the school symbol of Seika Academy. With that much information to go off of, she decides to go to the school. Her promise was that she would make him the most delicious dessert in the world. Just when she thought things would be just fine after her placement in Class A, the special class, she has to deal the constant insults from her classmates. The main students that pick on her are Akane Kishida and her little group. Later on, things get a little better when she becomes friends with Sora and Daichi Kitazawa, who are the school’s most popular brothers. Later on, however, they become possible candidates for Najika’s “Flan Prince” that she has been searching for. Will she find her “Flan Prince” in this escalator school and make friends with her classmates? Will she finally be accepted by her peers and lead a normal high school life? If you love a good love story and food, then this manga is for you! This manga also comes with fun recipes to try out at the end of each volume that were featured throughout the book! Come down to the library to check them out in the Young Adult section!! It’s worth a read!

Final Family Dive-In of the Summer!!!

On Friday, August 21st we will have our final Dive-in of the summer at Carl Levin Park from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. The movie for this final Dive-in is Bolt. Hope to see you there for swimming, food, and fun!

Fruits Basket

Tohru Honda has had it rough growing up. She has recently become an orphan when her mother dies in a car accident. Later on, she moves in with her grandfather, but decides to move out and take care of herself so as to not put much of a strain on her grandfather. This leads to her living in a tent in the forest and working a night job as a custodian to support herself. Throughout all of her hardships, she remains optimistic.

One day, everything gets turned upside down when she notices a house in the forest where a classmate of hers named Yuki Sohma and his cousin, Shigure Sohma, reside. After their meeting, everything seems to be going well until the Sohmas find out that she has been living in a tent. She finds out that the entire area is property to the Sohmas and she asks if she may be allowed to stay in her tent on their property, but, unfortunately for her, she faints from a fever. To make matters worse, a landslide buries her tent, along with the picture of her mother and her school uniforms.

They move her in to their house for the night, and dug out what they could from the landslide. When she wakes up, they tell her what’s happened to her tent. Getting tired of fast food and a filthy house, Shigure asks her if she would like to become a permanent guest of the house, as long as she cooks and cleans. She accepts the offer and is shown to her room. Everything seems to be going fine until Yuki’s other cousin, Kyo, bursts into the room and challenges him. Before they even start to fight, Tohru grabs Kyo and something… weird happens. In place of Kyo is an orange cat. She then gets hit on the head by a plank of wood, falls on Yuki and Shigure, and they turn into a rat and a dog. She soon discovers that the Sohmas family secret is that when they are touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the Zodiac sign that they are possessed by. What’s a girl to do with such a secret? Wonder Woman: Love and Murder

What do you get when you cross a great American Amazon superhero icon with the Bestselling author of “Ninth Circle” and “My Sister’s Keeper?” You get an awesome Wonder Woman graphic novel that is hard to put down! Prior to the murder of Maxwell Lord, a corrupt government official, Wonder Woman has gone underground and has been labeled a fugitive. She now lives under the alias of Diana Prince and works in the Department of Metahuman affairs with the government. Trying to adjust to this new “life,” everything seems to be going fine until things go awry. Being dismissed from her previous assignment, her boss, Sarge Steel, now gives her and her partner, code named Nemesis, a new objective: arrest Wonder Woman. What is Diana to do? How can she bring Wonder Woman in without revealing her secret identity? To find out what happens, come check out the graphic novel now available at out library in the young adult section!

Justice League: The New Frontier (DC Universe Original Movie)

Set around the early 1950s, an entity called The Centre was born from the molten center of creation. For many years, he has developed many attributes unlike those that walk the surface of the Earth. Soon the planet is hit by a meteor and new life emerges, thus bringing with it chaos. Among this new life, humans begin to walk the Earth. Fragile as The Centre sees us, he also sees our vicious and destructive nature. Within seconds, he witnesses our harnessing of “the most destructive force” (nuclear weapons) and has had enough. He then concludes that the earth must be purged of the destructive human race. While this is all being prophesied and written down in a story book by an unknown person, he closes the book, titled “The Last Story,” and shoots himself. This is only the beginning of what seems to be the toughest battle that world has to face. Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Flash, and other superheroes that have not worked with each other before must band together and form an alliance against this gigantic monster. If they fail, the planet will be “cleansed” of all humanity. This movie tells the amazing origins of a few of our favorite superheroes of all time. Not to mention, this movie is chock full of all favorite DC superheroes, too! This film is a great watch and a great way to introduce yourself to the DC universe through film, aside from reading the graphic novels. Justice League: The New Frontier is a great movie! I recommend it for anyone that loves DC or superheroes. Come down to the library and check out this amazing epic!

Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day, and we'll be showing the documentary Green: The New Red, White and Blue. The teen screening begins at 4 p.m., and the adult screening will be at 6.

Teen Tech Week and Spring Break!!!

The Library will be celebrating Teen Tech Week and Spring Break from March 13th-21st this year. The programs are for ages 10-17. A tentative schedule of events is:

Chick Flick Night Friday, March 13th @ 6-8:30pm
It's Girls-Night-In at the Library! We will be watching Clueless, munching on pizza and snacks, painting nails, and tons of other fun stuff! No registration required.

Anime Afternoon Tuesday, March 17th @ 1:30-4pm
I haven't decided on the anime that I am going to be showing. If you have any suggestions for teen-rated anime, please contact Rose Ramon @ 699-5008. Thanks!

Wearable Art Thursday, March 19th @ 5-6pm
Art deco your clothes. Stain your favorite pair of jeans with great designs using either stencils or freehand. Come dressed in old clothes and shoes.

Death by Chocolate Friday, March 20th @ 1-2pm
Do you love chocolate? Do you love decadent treats like a chocolate fountain, chocolate bingo, chocolate milk, chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, chocolate candy, chocolate... chocolate. Well then, this is just the thing for you!

Revitalizing Your Research

How many times have you been told,"just go to the library" when you're working on a research paper or some other type of project? How many times do you actually go? Going to the library really does help when writing papers. Most teens, like myself, enjoy milking the internet for the most information we can get when it comes to writing research papers - but after completing my 8-page term paper for Government, I've been converted.

Books were the answer to all of my prayers in research heaven. Not only was finding my information easier (card catalog see fig. 1), but the information was reliable. Internet sources often lack authors, editors, publishers and the essential information needed to complete a respectable ''works cited" page. So when you teacher says, "go to the library" they're sending you in the right direction. We may be a small library, but we have a multitude of research tools to help you complete you school work.

YAC Conference

Hey everybody! I just wanted to say that I'm excited about the Young Authors Conference tomorrow at Mary Hardin Baylor. I know we're going to have a great time and learn a lot!
